Established in 1989 by Tony El-Nemr, Nouria Energy has become one of New England’s largest family-owned convenience stores and fuel retailers. Operating 183 locations across five states, Nouria continues to expand, offering fuel services, nationally recognized co-brands, and proprietary food service programs. Throughout its growth, Nouria has remained committed to providing clean, well-lit, conveniently located stores for its customers. As Nouria embarks on this journey of growth and expansion, Phase Zero Design has been a trusted partner, helping to realize the company’s vision through exceptional design across several locations, including the flagship Logan Airport Travel Center.
Nouria Prototype Rollout
Our team has partnered with Nouria to develop a store prototype for future rollouts, establishing design standards for both the convenience store and forecourt. This includes everything from the overall layout to finishes, branding, signage, seating, and fueling areas. We have completed over 25 convenience stores and car wash locations across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, helping Nouria become synonymous with convenience, efficiency, and quality. Each new location averages 6,000 square feet and features a modern, cohesive design crafted to integrate with the communities it serves while maintaining Nouria’s high standards of cleanliness and customer experience.
Logan Airport Travel Center
Nouria’s flagship convenience and fueling center, located at 45 Transportation Way at Logan Airport, is a prime example of our partnership. In 2018, Nouria approached us with a development proposal from Massport for a new filing and convenience center at Logan Airport. The 6,600-square-foot state-of-the-art facility was completed in mid-October 2019, just in time for its grand opening on October 29, 2019.
The design, driven by the unique airport location, features a contemporary building with a double-sloped roof, evoking the feeling of flight. Large surrounding windows, a spacious layout, and community-inspired wall graphics bring the space a bright, welcoming atmosphere. The travel center includes a better-option convenience store, Starbucks’ first travel center café and drive-thru, and Meridian Market, a local East Boston eatery. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, and the plaza connects to East Boston’s Jeffries Point neighborhood, making the site a gathering space accessible to the center’s purveyors.
The fueling area features 16 Shell-branded stations and seamlessly connects to the main building with a canopy that unifies the exterior finishes. Sustainability was a key focus of the project, incorporating electric vehicle charging stations, solar panels, and sustainable materials throughout the design. These initiatives helped the building achieve LEED Silver certification, marking it a forward-thinking, eco-conscious project.
As Phase Zero Design principal Jim Kimball reflected, “Bringing Nouria’s vision to life was an extremely rewarding experience for our team. Massport set the bar high for the design, and Nouria gave us the freedom to exceed expectations.”
Shaping the Future of Travel Convenience
As Nouria continues to expand and innovate, Phase Zero Design remains committed to supporting their vision with forward-thinking designs that enhance customer convenience, comfort, and sustainability. Together, we are shaping the future of travel centers, creating spaces that meet evolving needs and elevate the customer experience across every location.
