What inspires you most about your field?
I am most inspired by the creative potential in architecture and the idea that there are endless possibilities. Anyone can start with an idea of what they want, but an architect has the potential to take that idea to the next level and create something much more. As architecture has evolved, we have seen many types of buildings and designs, demonstrating the limitless opportunities available. It truly inspires me to imagine what will be achieved in the future.
What is the most important tool of your trade, and why?
Listening. It is easy to hear what people say, but understanding and interpreting what a client says can open the door to better communication of project ideas and goals. Listening and truly hearing what a client’s interests are helps me complete projects that they love and best fit their project’s needs. Listening is also essential in the office to collaborate with my team so we all stay on the same page, work together efficiently and effectively, and do our best work.
How do you define the success of a project?
A project is a success when the client is happy! One of the reasons I love architecture and design is that it has the power to create places people love and use every day. Every project starts with an idea or a need and is then brought to life through architecture and design. When a client can see their vision in real-time or their need has been accomplished, and they are happy, a project is successful.
